What are your best hopes?

What’s the best outcome you envision for your writing?

My solution-focused writing workshops are respectful, present- and future-focused, and strength-based. We start with the understanding that you know best what you want to write and how you envision your work, its audience, and its impact. In the workshops, you will be guided through a process of examining those wants and developing that vision toward a clear plan. This process has been useful at various stages of writing projects, whether you have a vague idea or feel stuck somewhere in the middle.

The solution-focused approach is also about utilizing your existing strengths. I won’t presume to teach you how to write. Instead, I’ll ask what kind of feedback is most useful for you in the context of your specific project. Generally, we begin by identifying what works—in your ideas, plot, word choices, flow, structure, and creative chops. From there, we continue to identify more of what works.

Let’s turn your vision into reality—take the leap and watch your words come to life!

Let your writing shine!

Once we’ve recognized what’s working, we can explore how to let it shine—or perhaps, how to make it stick. This often involves two main possibilities: carving away what’s around the shiny bits that might dull, distort, or impede their effect; or amplifying the shine through examples, stories, and various kinds of metaphoric wordplay. Let’s explore and enhance what you do best!

Unleash your writing!

Join us and discover the joy of writing in a supportive, encouraging space where your voice matters. We’ve found that moving through the writing process in conversation with the facilitator and other participants enriches the experience in ways that are often surprising, sometimes enlightening, and always valuable.

Heather’s Solution Focused Writing Workshop has enhanced my writing freedom and focus, as well as my personal view of the world as I move through it. Her focus on highlighting what’s working, speaking through the pen to what my eye sees in the world before me has me seeing a new world! Her skill at noticing what I’m doing in my writing that is particular to me, and contains its richness, has helped me to focus on what I am writing that is working, and increase the frequency.

This workshop is an experience in itself, and the value has been priceless!

Attending Heather’s writing workshop was a transformative experience for me. As someone whose native language is not English, I had always written solely for myself, never daring to believe I could write creatively in English. But after just one workshop, a whole new world of possibilities opened up. Heather not only helped me refine my artistic use of language but also instilled in me a newfound confidence in my writing abilities. If you’re looking to unlock your potential as a writer and life explorer, I highly recommend taking her workshop.

I was apprehensive about attending Heather’s writing workshop because I did not consider myself to be a writer. However, with Heather’s fun nature and her gift for being engaging and accepting of all participants and abilities, I soon relaxed my fears, and the writing flowed. Her follow-up sessions continue to build my confidence. Who knows, maybe I’ll end up writing a book.

Heather brings a unique blend of passion for words and a deep understanding of the creative process. Her ability to create a collaborative space, along with her warm and supportive approach, not only helped me refine my writing but also introduced me to new styles. As a non-native English writer focusing on non-fiction, I found her exceptional editing skills invaluable. Working with Heather has been—and continues to be—a delightful journey that has elevated my writing and helped me successfully complete and publish my work.

The simplest and best comment I can offer is that Heather Fiske’s writing retreats helped me publish a book. With the exercises and group dynamic she created, I was able to set aside my doubts and pay more attention to my muse. This is a stark contrast to other workshops I have attended, where I left feeling like I would never write anything worth reading. With Heather, the work we did was tailored to my needs and focused on what was meaningful to me. I am now working on my next book and looking forward to the future retreat.
